Meet Gladys
"I've never come across such kind, friendly people before. The scheme manager and my neighbours have made me feel welcome and I always join in and have a laugh with them. That's what it's all about!"
Gladys has spent most of her life living with family. In the summer of 2019, she decided it was time for a change, so she moved into an independent living apartment in Farningham House. Gladys chose this scheme for its security, independence and sense of community.
"I've always wanted to live on my own, but have never had a chance, until now."
Adjusting to living alone for the first time can be challenging, but Gladys has settled in quickly and now enjoys her newfound independence. She is gradually filling her unfurnished apartment with furniture and decorations, to make it more homely.
"I really do want to make something of my flat: as much as I can, with as much as I can afford. My home is getting better and better."
