Sinks can sometimes get blocked by hair, leftover food and other solid items. Luckily, there are a lot of easy ways to fix it. Follow this guide to safely unblock your sink.
First, try this
You will need:
- Rubber gloves
- A dishcloth
- A plunger
To unblock your sink:
- Remove the plug covering the plug hole and clean it out as best as you can
- Ensure the plug hole is covered with water and then block the overflow (hole in the sink) with the dishcloth
- Place the plunger over the plug hole and slowly push it up and down.
If that doesn't clear the blockage
You will need:
- One cup of baking soda
- One cup of white vinegar
- A pot of boiling water
Then:
- Pour the pot of boiling water down the sink
- Pour a solution of one cup of baking soda, one cup of water and one cup of white vinegar
- Cover using the drain plug and wait five minutes
- Pour another pot of boiling water down the sink.
If that still doesn't work
You will need:
- Liquid drain cleaner
Then:
- Be careful and follow the safety precautions listed on the bottle when using chemical drain cleaners
- Pour the amount specified on the bottle directly into the drain
- Leave it for thirty minutes, before flushing with plenty of hot water.
