Social inclusion and older people
Activities for older people
We provide low cost activities in sheltered schemes (supported housing accommodation) which are open to all customers. This includes Tai Chi, craft and singing.
These help people to meet old and new friends, try new activities, learn new skills and give many health and wellbeing benefits.
We also fund projects to promote stories of older people’s lives and experiences to younger people, this will give adults and children to learn the differences of today and be able to share each other’s memories and personal stories.
Everyone needs other people, but not everyone has someone.
Bracknell Forest Voluntary Action operating as involve, runs a befriending scheme aimed at the elderly and vulnerable which is supported by funding from Silva Homes.
If you know of someone that would benefit from the befriending service or you could spare up to three hours a week and would like to befriend someone call the Community Investment team for more details.
Silva Homes helps with intergenerational projects where the older generation share their life stories with school children, helping to make historical facts a reality. These tie in with their curriculum and the stories can be turned into songs for a school production.
We provide support and training to get online and use IT equipment. For details of upcoming training and events please contact the Community Investment team. Bracknell Forest Council has a drop in session on Fridays 10am to 2pm.
We have a variety of volunteering opportunities available. You could report on the outcomes of our Community Investment activities or volunteer at our sheltered schemes or community landshare. To volunteer contact the Community Investment team.
