What is Right to Acquire?

Right to Acquire is a government scheme that allows most housing association tenants to buy their home at a discount.
You can get a discount between £9,000 and £16,000 depending on where you live.

Who can apply for Right to Acquire?

You can apply to buy your housing association home if you’ve had a public sector landlord for at least three years.

These landlords include:

  • Housing associations,
  • Councils,
  • The armed services,
  • NHS trusts and foundation trusts.

The home you want to buy must also have been built with grant funds, be a self-contained property and your only, or main home.

Who can't apply

Who is not able to apply for Right to Acquire?

You can’t use Right to Acquire if:

  • You are being made bankrupt,
  • A court has ordered you to leave your home,
  • You are a council tenant – you may be able to use Right to Buy instead,

How to apply for Right to Acquire

  • 1.

    Fill in the Right to Acquire application form on the government website

  • 2.

    Send your completed application form to: Silva Homes, Western Peninsula, Western Rd, Bracknell RG12 1RF

  • 3.

    We will contact you within four weeks of receiving your application to confirm if you qualify for the scheme. If your application is approved, we will arrange for a valuation of your property. If you do not qualify, we will explain the reason for this.

  • 4.

    For approved applications, once the valuation has been completed, we will send you an offer. We will do this within eight weeks if you are buying a freehold home, or twelve weeks if you are buying a leasehold home.
