Meet Clare

Clare saves an extra £58.70 per week,

74-year-old Clare has been a Silva Homes customer for 45 years. When she asked our revenue team for some money advice, she ended up getting much more than she’d bargained for.

In 2019, Clare moved into an accessible bungalow that was better suited to her. As part of this move, she had to submit a change of address form but needed a little extra help. Jean, our money advisor, visited Clare's home to help her fill in the form and ensure she would keep receiving housing benefits in her new home.

During her visit, Jean noticed that Clare wasn't receiving all the benefits she was eligible for.

She pointed out that Clare was entitled to attendance allowance, which helps pay for extra costs if you have a disability or condition and are over state pension age. The form to apply for attendance allowance is complicated and requires supporting evidence, including doctors’ letters and prescriptions.

So Jean visited Clare’s home with the form and supported her throughout the application, as she wanted to make sure Clare didn't miss out on any benefits that she was entitled to.

Clare's application for attendance allowance was accepted, so she receives an extra £58.70 in benefits every week. This has made a huge difference to her quality of life.
